Mary Joy
Mary Joy is a San Francisco based tattoo artist. She studied art in Italy and has been a part of the vibrant San Francisco art and punk scene since she was a teenager.
Mary learned to tattoo in North Beach nearly 20 years ago from the legendary Ed Hardy who taught her to break the mold while building on the solid foundations of the past. She opened Raven Eye Tattoo in 2020 in the inner Richmond district of San Francisco, just off Clement Street.
Her work is based in traditional tattooing and is imbued with a deep love and respect for classical art themes. She is a painter as well and her art is inspired deeply by Renaissance painting and classical printmaking. She tattoos worldwide and has exhibited her art in museums and galleries. Ravens, women’s faces, occult and mythological figures, plants and animals are her favorite themes to tattoo.
